The Hauptwache is opposite the cathedral and is a late classicist building from the Prussian era that was erected in 1861 and served as a guard station for the 8th Rhenish Jäger Battalion from 1862 to 1877. After that it was the domicile of the police force until 1972. (Source: Wetzlar.de)
