Sagres enjoys a great reputation in the world of surfing since this old fishing town is surrounded by magnificent beaches: Mareta, Tonel or Martinhal. Historically, the city is also famous since it housed the school of navigation founded by Henri le Navigateur, at the origin of the company of exploration of the coasts of Africa which led in 1488 to the discovery of the cape of Good Hope.

Sagres is a little sleepy and unattractive in comparison to other ports in the Algarve. Only at second glance, however, can you still find some nice corners with typical Portuguese charm.
