The former Roman Catholic chapel, built between 1772 and 1774 on the site of a previous chapel dedicated to John the Baptist, stands on the edge of the Old Square in front of the Capuchin monastery. At that time, relations between the Sokolov archdeaconry and the Capuchins were not very friendly. The archdeaconry probably suffered greatly from the exodus of believers after a music choir was established in the monastery church, which helped the monastery gain new believers at the expense of the church of St. James the Greater. The chapel was probably placed directly in front of the Capuchins' church door as a warning to those who were leaving.
The chapel was destroyed in the town fire on June 23, 1874, but was soon rebuilt in a similar form. After repairs in the late 1990s, it was handed over to the Orthodox Church, which has used it for Sunday and holiday services ever since.

The chapel dates from the 17th century, which was remodeled in the Baroque style between 1772 and 1774.

The patronage of this church was not conferred on one of the (almost infinite) number of saints, but entrusted to the protection of the "Holy Trinity." Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Ratzinger, 1927 to 2022) uttered the following words about that mystery of faith, which in Christianity, across all denominations, we venerate the ONE God in THREE Persons:
"On the Sunday after Pentecost, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. Through the Holy Spirit, who helps us understand the words of Jesus and leads us to all truth, believers can, so to speak, gain knowledge of the innermost being of God and thereby discover that He is by no means infinite solitude, but a communion of light and love, life given and received in an eternal dialogue between the Father and the Son in the Holy Spirit—lover, beloved, and love, to use the words of St. Augustine."
(Address by Pope Benedict XVI, at the Angelus on 11 June 2006)
