For the Gudenau moated castle, see e.g. de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Gudenau

The complex is very well maintained and a detour is worthwhile - this is possible when the first gate at the main entrance is open.

      The castle and its surroundings:

"Gudenau Castle is an exceptionally large, two-part moated castle complex, divided into a main castle with a manor house and old outer bailey, as well as a newer outer bailey. The main castle is surrounded by a wide moat, with the newer outer bailey located to the northeast. To the southwest are the walled gardens, which lead into agricultural land in the valley. A sunken lane leads along the wall into the fields. It once ran to Neuenhof, which, according to old maps, was abandoned in the second half of the 19th century. Only the field name "Am Neuenhof" (Am Neuenhof) indicates the former farm. A stone wayside cross with a shell niche and crucifix stands on the wall. The body of the castle is depicted with the feet, hands, heart, and crown of thorns, symbolizing the wounds of Jesus. The inscription on the base reads: "On May 6, 1815, the honorable Ehleuth Matin Schmiz and Mechdildis Lauffenbergs had this cross erected in Bech in honor of God."
