Very nice valley with very easy to walk trails. Sometimes it's a little steep or slippery. Firm shoes are therefore a MUST."As part of the Parque Rural de Doramas park, the El Barranco de la Virgen valley is home to the remains of the Laurisilva forest (laurel forest), which was said to have covered the entire interior of the island at the time. What is particularly striking is a part of the valley that Barranco Oscuro ( dark valley), this valley receives the greatest possible protection within the Canarian nature reserve, the valley is located between steep rocks that have preserved an endemic flora that in many cases only occurs in this zone. La cresta de Gallo (= the Hahnenkamm ) / (the chanterelle; Isoplexis chalcantha) and the salvia blanca (white sage) / (Sideritis discolor) are two of these unique plants, of which only a few are left. A wonderful, always green valley.
We actually go through a day here every time we visit the island. If the south is too warm again, the Virgen Valley offers a welcome change and sometimes a significant cooling. A rain jacket was announced one time or another.
