Freckhausen is one of 106 towns in the municipality of Reichshof. First mentioned: 1295 “Knight Arnold v. Elverfeld describes Adolf von Wereckenhusen, his son Erkenbert and his allies as his opponents (location uncertain)”. Spelling Wereckenhusen. Certain first mention: 1443 as Wreckynckhusen. “Income of the Apostle Foundation”.

Freckhausen is surrounded by agricultural land, in the western part predominantly by deciduous forests. The town is undermined by old mining tunnels in the lower part of the village, which repeatedly led to road damage or the disappearance of (so far only) entire trees until the mid-1980s. The extraction shaft was located directly next to the old village pond.
