In the castle (1st). Square within the Hofburg, which is surrounded by the fronts of the Schweizerhof, the Leopoldinisches Trakt, the Amalienburg and the Reichskanzleitrakt and accesses to the Heldenplatz, Ballhausplatz, through the Michaelertor of the Reichskanzlei- or Michaelertrakt to the Michaelerplatz and via the inner courtyard of the Schweizerhof and the Kapellenhof to the Josefsplatz owns. Named (November 5, 1919); before (1547-1819) Burgplatz, then Innerer Burgplatz (in contrast to the Outer Burgplatz, Heldenplatz) and from 1846 Franzensplatz (after the monument to Franz I. Kaiser-Franz-Monument unveiled at the time).
