A part of Třeboň that cannot be ignored is the magnificent Renaissance chateau, which stretches out on the south-west side of the historical city centre. At this point there was first a mansion, which was transformed into a fortress and later into a stone castle, first mentioned in 1374. Not long before that, Třeboň was bought by the Rosenbergs, who allowed the town and its wide surroundings to develop accordingly. The fortified town was besieged twice, fortunately unsuccessfully, by the Hussites.
