Burgsteinfurt Castle (also called Steinfurt Castle) is a moated castle on the edge of the old town of Burgsteinfurt, a district of the Münsterland town of Steinfurt. It is the oldest water castle complex in Westphalia and is located on an almost circular island, which is surrounded by the Steinfurter Aa. Nowadays consisting of three building complexes, the upper castle, the lower castle and the castle mill, the system has been rebuilt and expanded over the course of its eventful history

For more than 600 years, grain was ground here directly opposite the castle. Today, the historic walls house a restaurant with a great ambience, great service and outstanding Italian cuisine at a high level.

One of the most beautiful moated castles in Westphalia, unfortunately not to visit, since privately inhabited.

The Castle Burgsteinfurt is the oldest water castle in Westphalia and stands on a nearly circular island, which is surrounded by the Steinfurt Aa. An interior visit, as well as a visit to the lower and upper court are no longer possible. It is only possible to look at the system from the outside.

The oldest water castle complex in Westphalia, consisting of an upper castle, a lower castle and a castle mill. The beautiful old town is in the immediate vicinity.

Nice castle with interesting architecture and a moat. But be careful: it is still inhabited and cannot be visited. The gatekeeper is careful! ;-)
