Doenrade Castle is located on the outskirts of the homonymous village Doenrade in the municipality of Schinnen. The castle is one of the oldest castles in Limburg and was built around 1117. In earlier years it was a moat castle. It was inhabited by important noble families. For example, the genera Brempt (1196) and Dobbelstein (1224) were counted among the ancient nobles. The Brempt family sold the castle to Jean de Fléron in 1679. It then passed into the hands of the Limpens family, who remained the owner of the castle until the end of the 19th century. Finally, the last descendants of this family, Jean de Limpens, housed Doenrade Castle.

Today's white plastered castle has been built on the site of an older house since the 16th century. A wing and tower were added to the castle in the early 1930s, giving it its current shape.
