ARTWORK: THE PROGRESSION
The sculpture's theme is transformation, from the material to the spiritual. The shoe serves as a metaphor for this. It depicts change. The changes that people go through throughout their lives. Their decay makes path and time visible. Simultaneously with the process of decay, life experience, wisdom, and awareness increase. The artwork represents being on the move, spiritually and physically, while hiking and on pilgrimage. This is the reference to St. George's Church in Hausen. In order to survive this process of transformation and purification, one must face one's own inadequacy, fear, and danger throughout one's life. St. George, the patron saint of the church in Hausen, fights the dragon; he faces danger. The glass flame symbolizes this; it represents the dragon's fire.
