Cà San Marco is the former roadman's house on Via Priula, an important commercial artery at the time of the Republic of Venice. In fact, the San Marco pass, a short distance from here, connected (and still connects) Bergamo with Morbegno. Today it is a small mountain hotel.

Built in 1593 to a design by Alvise Priuli, the Cantoniera Cà San Marco was initially born as a roadman's house used to offer refreshment to merchants passing along the Via Priula, heading towards the Canton of Grigioni.

Due to construction defects it had to be completely rebuilt a few years after its inauguration.

The Cantoniera di San Marco was built together with the Via Priula (15th century), therefore it did not exist when the Via Mercatorum was in use (14th century).

The Via Mercatorum, before the construction of the Priula, was the only ancient road that connected the city of Bergamo with the communities of Grisons and central Europe and was therefore of fundamental importance.

The route, after first going up the Seriana Valley and then the Brembana Valley, touched San Giovanni Bianco, Oneta, Cornello, Piazza, Olmo and Averara.

Then, crossing the Valmoresca, it climbed up to divide into two branches: to the north-east it reached the Albarino pass, or Albaredo, the current San Marco pass, to the north-west the Verrobbio pass, also known as Morbegno, from where it descended into Val Gerola.

The route from Cà San Marco was the most used.
