The Velmerstot is the northernmost and highest mountain of the Eggegebirge in North Rhine-Westphalia. It owns the two peaks Prussian Velmerstot, whose summit rises in the area of Steinheim-Sandebeck in the district Höxter, and the Lippische Velmerstot, which is located in the area of Horn-Bad Meinberg in the district of Lippe. The entire mountain belongs to the nature park Teutoburger Wald / Eggegebirge. On the Prussian Velmerstot is the Eggeturm; on the Lippe Velmerstot with heathland are rugged sandstone rocks. Not Velmers-dead, because it has nothing to do with dying. It is called Velmer-stot and comes from the name of the nearby town Veldrom; the term stot probably stands for steep slope.
