The chapel was built in 1921/22 and completely renovated in 1954. The client was the guild master and baker Josef Schöfer. In addition to commemorating those who fell in the First - and later also the Second - World War, the chapel was intended to enable the baker's children who spent their holidays in the nearby convalescent home (now the Würmtalklinik) to attend Sunday services. The construction was financed by a surcharge of 10 pfennigs per pound of yeast.
The Munich Bakers' Guild celebrates a festive service here every year on the Assumption Day.
