The hall was built and inaugurated in 1909 in Art Nouveau style as a "gymnastics and festival hall". It was financed with the surplus of the Municipal Savings Bank.
After the outbreak of the First World War (1914), Philippsburg was declared a hospital city and the hall was then used as a hospital until 1919.
During the renovations carried out in 1957/1958, many of the Art Nouveau elements were covered and changed by structural measures. It was not until 20 years later that the original condition was restored during the general renovation, so that today the hall is one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau halls in Germany.
