This memorial commemorating the resistance against National Socialism was erected here in 1987. It is made of bricks and takes the form of an oval table surrounded by twelve chairs. It was created by Thomas Schütte.

Eleven chair backs bear the names of Hamburg resistance fighters who were murdered by the National Socialists and whose names gave their names to nearby streets.

The final plaque, on the twelfth chair, which bears no name, explains the memorial and invites visitors to reflect.

The Düsseldorf artist Thomas Schütte designed the memorial, inaugurated in 1987, to commemorate the resistance against National Socialism. It is constructed of bricks and takes the form of an oval table surrounded by twelve chairs.

Eleven chair backs bear the names of the following Hamburg resistance fighters who were murdered by the National Socialists: Georg Appel, Clara and Walter Bacher, Rudolf Klug, Curt Ledien, Reinhold Meyer, Hanne Mertens, Ernst Mittelbach, Joseph Norden, Margaretha Rothe, Kurt Schill, and Paul Thürey. Streets in the vicinity of the memorial were named after them in 1984.
