Attention: This is private property and entering is not permitted.
The ruins can be found very close to the Hotel-Restaurant “Zur Rauschenburg”. You can also take a wonderful break here. There is a beautiful beer garden here with a view of the Lippe.

    Quote
    “RAUSCHENBURG CASTLE RUINS
Overgrown with ivy and tall trees, almost mystical in appearance: the ruins of the Rauschenburg. A once important border castle in a strategically important location, where the Romans crossed the Lippe 2000 years ago. The Rauschenburg manor was first mentioned in 1050, built at a ford on the mostly impassable Lippe. In the castle area it was sometimes possible to cross the river by horse and cart. A bailiff of Bishop Ludwig Landgrave of Hesse from Münster is named as the first owner in 1317.

    DEMOLITION OF THE CASTLE
The Rauschenburg had a three-story main house with a tower, surrounded by a moat. A drawbridge connected the main house with the farm building and stables, which lay outside the moat. After frequent changes of ownership, the Rauschenburg last went to von Twickel zu Havixbeck in 1823. According to tradition, the castle was finally demolished around 1870. It is said that local residents came on boats to pick up the stones and use them on their farms.

    THE RAUSCHENBURG TODAY
Today only a few fragments of masonry can be found on the small island surrounded by the moats. Old, venerable trees keep the location stable with their roots. The Rauschenburg ruins are privately owned and may not be entered for security reasons."

Mystical place, not so much to see, but you can imagine what it must have looked like.
      Attention private property
