A "stone house" on this site was first mentioned in 1314. It was probably built long before that, as the Lords of Mheer were mentioned as early as the 1100s. In the 14th century the castle passed through marriage to the Van Imstenraedt family. The castle remained in this family until 1668, when it passed to the De Loë family. You still own the castle.
