The Church of S. Maria in Pian di Scò is located on top of the town. Those who walk the road of the Seven Bridges are in front of the Sacred Building with the three apses and the slender bell tower. The imposing Pieve di Scò turns its back on the main road. A quick glance makes us understand that it has recently been restored and after the restoration the various interventions of man and the events undergone by the monument are well read.

This ancient parish church has a great history. Although the precise year of its foundation is ignored, however from the whole of its architecture we can assume that it arose around the year one thousand. The first document in which it is mentioned dates back to 12 March 1008. In that year it was named in a donation made by the noble family Ubertini in favor of the Abbey of Santa Trinita in Alpe.

Another document mentions some land located in the plover of Pian di Scò donated to the church of Gastra. Some historians believed that this Píeve belonged and depended on the Apostolic See, but the documents issued by the Pontiffs Pasquale II (1103), Innocenzo II (1134) and Anastasio IV (1153) confirmed the jurisdiction over this church to the bishops of Fiesole.
