Sprawled on the banks of the River Derwent, Kirkham Priory is a picturesque ruined 12th-century priory. The priory was in use until the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII in 1539.
In more recent history, the area was used to test D-Day landing vehicles during WWII, and Winston Churchhill even visited the site.
Managed by English Heritage, the ruins are open to visitors. They're a lovely spot for a picnic!

A favourite stop. The ruined Priory, lots of parking and a great place for a quick swim to cool off. Food too.
