High above the Rachelsee perched on a narrow rocky outcrop, the wooden Rachel chapel. The view of Lake Rachel and the tranquil chapel invite you to take a break at any time of the year.

The Rachel Chapel is a chapel on the Great Rachel in the Bavarian Forest.

Located at 1,212 meters above sea level on a promontory above the Rachel Lake, the chapel dates back to 1885, the original building built by a Spiegelauer Forstmeister named Leithäuser. This all-wooden chapel burned down after the Second World War.

1951 was a new building in the same place, again completely made of wood. Inside, the new chapel was decorated with carvings by the Spiegelauer Herrgottschnitzers Johann Lentner.

The Rachelkapelle burnt down in 1972 in autumn 1971
After this second Rachelkapelle had also fallen victim to a fire by arson on March 19, 1972, it was rebuilt in the same shape and again equipped with carvings created by Johann Lentner.

In the late 1990s, the condition of the chapel had deteriorated greatly due to weather conditions and aging, so that a fundamental renovation was necessary, which included a nearly complete faithful reconstruction of the wooden building. The work was completed with the inauguration on June 24, 2000.
