Of glacial origin, the lake was formed about 12,000 years ago in a depression in the hills. The lake is fed not only by atmospheric precipitations but also by an underground spring and by small streams afferent from the surrounding hills. A series of wooden bridges join the dirt roads to better visit the lake.

The roads leading to the lake are gravel, some bordered by stakes. The site is very well kept with benches, picnic areas and lookout points. Worth a visit.
