    Hiking

Around the year 1240, Slavic farmers settled on the small hill, which still forms the center of Woltersdorf today. The first church in the village was built in 1555, five years after the first lock between Flakensee and Kalksee was built. In the 19th century, the towns around nearby Berlin constantly expanded - many Berlin families also had weekend houses in Woltersdorf. This backdrop, together with the lakes, provided the appropriate background for films such as "The Tiger of Eschnapur" (1937).

St. Michael's Church, built in the neo-Gothic style, was consecrated in 1857. The church building, which was heavily damaged in World War II, was gradually renovated in the decades that followed.

This Woltersdorf church is dedicated to the Archangel Michael, the name (coming from Hebrew) means "Who is like God?". He is often depicted - on paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword or lance. Michael is - together with Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel - one of the four archangels who (according to human imagination) occupy the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day in the saints calendar is September 29th.
