The cemetery lies alone in the forest. Quiet and abandoned, the many tombstones commemorate distant times when the mourners were banished far away from the town and placed stones on the steles. Today this place exudes calm, but urges you to learn from the past.

On the history of the cemetery

The cemetery was established in the forest area north of the town as early as the middle of the 16th century. Sources from the Mühringen municipal archives show that burials took place here as early as 1579. In the 17th century, the Jewish cemetery in Mühringen was the central cemetery for the Jewish communities/families in Mühringen, Horb, Haigerloch, Rexingen, Hemmendorf and Poltringen; "Totenhau" area, area 64.85 a). According to a source from 1875, the oldest gravestone at the time dates from 1697. The last grave is that of Julius Feigenheimer, who died in October 1940. Today there are still 828 gravestones in the cemetery - according to other sources, 807. However, the number of people buried here is much higher.
Two honorary citizens of the municipality of Mühringen were also buried here: the cantor Salomon Löwenthal and the merchant, town clerk and municipal councilor Moses Perlen
