Since you can drive up to the Hochtannbergpass and from there "only" about 3 hours to the summit, it is especially at the weekend in good weather often incredibly full. Anyone who has the opportunity to make this great peak during the week should do so.

The complete tour around and on the Widderstein is free of summiteers in flip flops, as there is no cable car there. So you meet like-minded people. The view is priceless, and once you've got the alpine climb, it's the ultimate reward.

If you like something a little more challenging, you start in Mittelberg, walk through the Gemsteltal past the Gemstelalpe over the Gemstelpass up to the Widdersteinhütte. From there, continue to the summit and after enjoying the magnificent view from the Großer Widderstein, then past the Hochalpsee over the Seekopf down to the Hochalpe. The round is finally completed on the way through the Bärgunttal past the Bärgunt hut down to Baad. From here you can either take the 1-seater bus back to Mittelberg or take the flat path along the Breitach back to the starting point. You can stop off at the very beginning in the Obere Gemstelalpe ( komoot.de/highlight/1668251 ), then (before climbing the summit) of course in the Widdersteinhütte ( komoot.de/highlight/92855 ) and finally in the Bärgunt-Hütte ( komoot.de/highlight/1668252 ). And as already mentioned several times, a head for heights and surefootedness are a prerequisite if you want to enjoy the tour.
