Aescher Mountain Inn

A trip to the Alpstein is always worth it for me.
There are always beautiful views to enjoy everywhere. If time is short, I like to take the Appenzeller Bahn from Urnäsch to Wasserauen, from where many great destinations can be reached quickly and easily on foot. Such as the Seealpsee or Aescher.

For me, as an Alpstein lover, a hike to Aescher is always one of the first and last of the season. That is, when there is already some snow or there is still some snow left. The mountain inn is of course closed at that time, so you can find it beautifully quiet.
The safety ropes on the path from Aescher to Seealpsee have already been dismantled and the path has to be rebuilt after the winter season, so there are usually fallen trees on the path.
On the path from Aescher to Alp Bommen there is still a risk of avalanches for a relatively long time after the winter season. Even though the path itself is almost snow-free and easy to do, there is still a lot of snow on the steep terrain up on Ebenalp, which can fall down onto the path at any time. People have even been fatally struck by a slab of snow sliding down here. So you have to go around this place by walking down the slope directly towards the forest shortly after the Aescher and eventually ending up at the Alp Bommen, where you can take the usual path again.
