The current building at Marktplatz 6, directly adjacent to the former Jesuit church (now the Evangelical Parish Church), was built in July 1720 as a Jesuit college with an attached Jesuit high school and was completed in 1723. With the secularization, the Ignatianum College was abolished by Duke Friedrich II on December 21, 1802, and the buildings fell to Württemberg. From 1803 to 1815, the two buildings were used as barracks for the Württemberg troops; it was not until 1818 that they were returned to the high school, which had been housed in the former Cameral Office building at Priestergasse 5 for that time. In 1848, the former Jesuit building was handed over to the court. The high school remained in the former Jesuit college until it was able to move into the new Peutinger High School building on July 26, 1963. From that day on, the use of the building was transferred entirely to the district court. In 1964/65 it was rebuilt and renovated for the criminal chambers of the regional court and for the public prosecutor's office in Ellwangen.

The former Jesuit grammar school (Schmiedstraße 1) was built under Prince Provost Franz Ludwig von Pfalz - Neuburg and the two Jesuit brothers Amrhein and Guldiman following the neighboring Jesuit college, which was completed in 1722, and today houses the public prosecutor's office.
