The parish church of St. Zeno in Isen is one of the oldest churches in the archdiocese of Munich and Freising and was probably founded under Bishop Ermbert (739-747). She was first mentioned in documents in connection with Bishop Josef (748-764), who is considered the actual founder and sponsor. The monastery of St. Zeno was orphaned in the Hungarian storms of the 10th century, but was resettled from 1025. The minster served as the collegiate church until 1803, after which it was the parish church of the parish of Isen. The 1200-year history has left many traces in the Isen church, and the harmony of the various building eras is what makes the Isen church so special.

In the fourth century AD, St. Zeno was bishop of Verona, where his burial place is in the episcopal church there. He is said to have lived his life selflessly and in poverty. He earned his living by fishing in the Adige, which is why he can always be found with the attribute of fish. St. Zeno is invoked for protection against flooding and flooding.
To the north of the Alps, only 2 churches are consecrated to St. Zeno, namely in Isen and Bad Reichenhall.
