Shrimp fishing on horseback, as practiced in Oostduinkerke, is an ancient craft that is closely linked to nature and depends on the elements and the tide. Watching the tough men on their robust horses toil through the waves is definitely worth a trip! 'Shrimp fishing on horseback in Oostduinkerke' was officially added by UNESCO on Wednesday 4 December 2013 to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

During the months of March, April, May, September, October and November, horse anglers follow the rhythm of nature and fish near the Schipgatduinen (St. André) and at Groenendijk.
In July and August, they demonstrate their craft skills almost daily near the center of Oostduinkerke–Bad.
