The Heidgen forest settlement was created during the Second World War by the Todt organization, which built four buildings for a labor camp here in 1940. After the war, the complex was privately owned by the Federal Property Administration.
The name Waldsiedlung is based on the topographical location of the settlement, as it is surrounded by forest, which partly belongs to the city of Cologne. The name Heidgen relates to the neighboring town of Heidgen.
