The Schillsche Jäger (also known as the Schillsche Free Corps) was an irregular unit under the command of the Prussian major Ferdinand von Schill (1776–1809), who fought against France during the Fifth Coalition War. The 11 officers from Schills Corps were transferred to Wesel, here before a court martial and shot on September 16, 1809 on the Lippewiesen. According to tradition, they died calling up the king and Prussia.
