The Queen’s Scottish residence of Balmoral Castle
is impressive enough by itself, but the wooded
hills around it are dotted with spectacular cairns.
Most were established by Queen Victoria and
are dedicated to her loved ones, including her
beloved husband Prince Albert and most of her
grandchildren. They are linked by walking trails and
each one offers a commanding view over the estate and Royal Deeside.

Lovely woodland walk leads you to the Prince alberts pyramid. Beautiful views over countryside and the mountains of the cairngorms.

The pyramid can be reached by following a path (rather steep and muddy) from the north following the way-marked signs. A spectacular sight and has to be seen to appreciate its size, especially compared to the other cairns on the estate. A better approach is to follow the main track until signs marking the return route are found. Then following these up the hill from the south side - a more gentle and quieter route can be taken.
