Pretty little half-timbered district in the historic center of Wetter with the ruins of the Wetter Castle and a great view from the observation tower over the Harkortsee. Right next to the castle is the Evangelical Reformed church, which was built as a castle chapel around 1250 and was taken over by the Reformation in 1550. The current church was built in 1894 as a new building.
At the same time, this place is a cradle of the early industrialization of the Ruhr area, since Friedrich Harkort and Johann Kamp founded the mechanical workshops Harkort & Comp. founded in the ruins of the castle, who i.a. Manufactured steam engines.
You can also see the former home of the baron von und zum Stein, who was appointed mining director at the Wetter mining office in 1784 and was responsible for the modernization of the mining industry and the region's infrastructure. His activity as Bergdirektor in Wetter ended in 1804 when he was appointed Minister of Finance and Economics to Berlin. Together with Karl August von Hardenberg, Stein laid the foundations for the Prussian reforms.

Especially worth seeing in the blue hour when the old lanterns come on, the half-timbered houses look like a fairytale!
