Only a few minutes away from the center of Hamburg you are surrounded by untouched nature. Along the long copper mine you walk along the shore, where tall reeds and old trees provide a beautiful autumn scenery. The name copper pond is still often used here in the north of Hamburg. This comes from the Swedish reign, when numerous copper mills were created here, which processed the Swedish ore and then delivered by ship.

I myself have already hiked from the Hummelsee, through the Raakmoor, over the Alsterwanderweg, to the copper pond, up to the Hummelberg, back to the Hummelsee and I am still thrilled. Hiking through the northeastern part of a big city and barely getting it. In addition beautiful nature and many highlights. Especially the Alsterwanderweg is always worth to be wandered.

The copper pond is the former mill pond of a long-demolished copper mill between Lemsahl-Mellingstedt and Poppenbüttel. For this purpose, the rivers Mellingbek and Twelenbek coming from the Wittmoor and merging in front of the copper pond were dammed up to about 900 m.
