The permanent exhibition, covering approximately 800 square meters, showcases prehistoric and early historical finds, as well as the city's history from the Middle Ages to the recent past. The history of picture sheets is also presented. The museum houses one of Brandenburg's oldest collections. Among other things, visitors can find the original Neuruppin picture sheet, the "Altruppin Hand" (a local historical print), and an exhibition on the city's famous sons, Theodor Fontane (1819-1898) and Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841). The museum is open year-round.
