"... The Franziskus-Kirche owes its origin to the establishment of industry in Hochdahl. It was triggered by the construction of the railway from Düsseldorf to Elberfeld, which went into operation in 1838. Before the railway was built, there was only agriculture in the area of today's Hochdahl in the form of a few large estates and a number of smaller farms. Around 1815 there were around 400 inhabitants, around 1830 there were around 870. The area belonged to the parish of Erkrath. In the Antonius Chapel there were regular services. For everything else, the Hochdahlers had to follow Alt-Erkrath.

In 1874 the foundation stone for today's St. Franziskus Church was finally laid. The church was consecrated in 1876. In 1881 the stained glass windows in the choir were built. The bells were added in 1886/87. In 1890 the steeple was put on. Then the interior was completed. From 1899 on, the stained glass windows in the nave were gradually built. ... "
