Even if the Venner Moor was almost completely peated off in earlier times, attempts are now being made to restore the landscape. It's happening slowly, but still! :) Nevertheless, you can enjoy fabulous flora and fauna in the former high moor and explore the moor in different ways.

The Dümmer Nature Park is particularly important for international bird migration. With its vast, protected moorland areas and bodies of water, it offers breeding and resting places for numerous migratory birds, such as up to 100,000 cranes, arctic wild geese and other wading and meadow birds every year. The area is now the third largest crane resting area in Europe. Numerous moats run through the nature park area, through which the river “Hunte” also flows. The extensive raised bogs have a unique flora and fauna. Finds from the Neolithic indicate that people were drawn to the fertile soils and biodiversity in prehistoric times and even lived here.

In June we were treated to a variety of bird calls, loud frog concerts and a wonderful splendor of cotton grass right at the beginning of our moor tour.
