Dead Horse Gap Walking track links the Dead Horse Gap car park on Alpine Way to the top of Thredbo’s Kosciuszko Express Chairlift (Eagles Nest). The Slog, or Rams Head climb brings hikers up or down 1,500 metres in elevation depending on how you approach the trail. On the accent, the first kilometre is the most gruelling, with natural stairs through skeletal, fire-affected snow gum forests. Once you push past the tree line, the trail flattens out into alpine meadows and heathland with panoramic views over the upper reaches of the Thredbo River.
