Pools are standing waters in the floodplain forest, which can be found in several places in Rodenbach, but also in the form of reed beds in neighboring Großauheim. Some of the pools are now used to obtain drinking water (especially in Großauheim), but peat was also mined there in places in the past. The peat extraction gives a good indication that the pools were once extensive bogs. The Romans took advantage of the moor and pool areas by running the Limes through them on deposits and thus taking precautions against possible attacks on the Limes line.
