The single-track branch line (approx. 27.7 km) was opened on its entire length on November 9, 1879.
Construction and operation were taken over by the Mecklenburgische Friedrich-Franz-Eisenbahn.
It connected Waren (Müritz) with Malchin and was the first railway connection for Waren.
Intermediate stops incl.: Gielow, Basedow (near Langwitz/Teerofen), Schwinkendorf, Levenstorf, Schönau-Falkenhagen.
Passenger and freight transport (incl. gravel extraction near Basedow) were discontinued in 1996; the line was closed in 1998 and later largely dismantled.
