Rugged, wild and boasting sensational Highland views, Garbh Bheinn is one of those Corbetts that trumps many higher Munros. Its compact yet complex form is prominent across Loch Linnhe when viewed from Glencoe’s western peaks and up close it is even more striking. Its main summit is held aloft on towering crags that circle the spectacular corrie of Garbh Choire Mor.
Arguably the finest mountain in Ardgour, Garbh Bheinn is most easily accessed from Glen Tarbert. If you’re approaching from the south, the Corran Ferry is the quickest way to access the region. Accommodation can be found around Corran too, or around Strontian on the far eastern shore of Loch Sunart.
There are many routes to the summit and all require at least some easy scrambling. The A861 at the foot of the southeast ridge is a common starting point, giving you the option of tackling the ridge or following a footpath into the main corrie. There are no paths once you’re up high, making this a mountain for the experienced adventurer.
Unexploited and breathlessly rough-hewn, Garbh Bheinn is a diamond in the rough. Showpiece of the Ardgour mountains on the western shores of Loch Linnhe – a wild area devoid of any Munros and their subsequent crowds – Garbh Bheinn is a thrillingly rocky and calmingly peaceful mountain you won’t regret visiting.

Don't be fooled into heading to the first top - skirt around it and either drop down the steep chimney or take a lower path around the first hill to climb to the true summit about the great crag.
