Sgurr Fiona, An Teallach

Sgurr Fiona, An Teallach

Recommended by 13 hikers

Sgurr Fiona is the great sentinel that stands above the gnarliest of all mainland Britain’s ridge scrambles, An Teallach’s Corrag Bhuidhe Pinnacles. Hikes to Sgurr Fiona can either be a there-and-back Munro grab or part of a tremendously exciting traverse of this, arguably the finest mountain in Scotland. The view from the summit is awe-inspiring, particularly south towards the extravagant Corrag Bhuidhe.

Brutally built and terrifyingly sheer, An Teallach is probably mainland Britain’s gnarliest ridge scramble. Monstrous pinnacles, like the jagged backbone of a sleeping dragon, serve up a legendary grade three scramble with spine-tingling exposure. Stick to the spiky crest for an epic alpine adventure – and bag two Munros along the way too.

Sgurr Fiona is definitely a Sgurr (translates to peak, usually pointy and narrow). Working your way up its scree slopes is worth all the effort. Some of the best views in Scotland here, across the whole mountain and to the Fisherfield forest.
