The "Tsukiyomi Shrine" is the largest shrine on Sakurajima. It is located directly on the harbor of Sakurajima and was built between 708 and 715.
It is said that the name Sakurajima comes from one of the goddesses of the Japanese myth "Konohana-sakuya-hime". This goddess is also worshipped in this shrine.
