The legend of the Devil's Rock

The people of Bundenbach are so pious that no one goes to hell.
The devil was so annoyed by this that he put a curse on it.
He himself threw a rock, oh horror,
at the Bundenbach church.

And so he ran through the forest, carrying the rock on his shoulder.
One summer day, in the great heat,
the devil began to sweat badly.
And he took a rest on the way,
because the devil hates work too.

The shoemaker passed by
on her way to Bundenbach.
In her basket she was carrying all sorts of things,
most of all shoes that needed to be made.
She had fetched them from the nearby villages so that her husband could put new soles on them.

The devil asks her: «Good woman,
how far is the way exactly?»
She took a close look at the stranger
and recognized him by his hoof and horn.
«Look, the shoes are just rubble.
I came from Bundenbach and I walked on them and they broke.»

Then the devil threw the rock down in frustration.
And since then the Devil's Rock has been lying in the Lützelsoon.
