Leopold Canal memorial stone

On November 15, 1846, the obelisk was erected on the Leopold Canal. It was donated by Grand Duke Leopold in gratitude for the construction of the canal. The Leopold Canal spared the neighboring communities from the floods of the Dreisam, Elz and Glotter. The inscription reads:

"To ward off the devastating floods - the Dreisam and Elz - these canals were built under the blessed government - of Grand Duke Leopold - by the combined forces of the state - and the communities involved - from 1837 to 1842 - the communities grateful to Grand Duke Leopold"
