History of the castle:

Starý Jičín Castle stands on the Starojický hill near Nové Jičín. At the top of this hill, a Gothic castle was built at the beginning of the 13th century on the site of the original wooden fortress, whose founder is Arnold. from Hückeswagen. At the beginning of the 14th century, the family of lords Z Kravař became the owners of the castle. After several changes of owners after the Hussite Wars, the castle and estate was acquired by a powerful family of lords from Žerotín at the beginning of the 16th century. After the Thirty Years' War, the importance of the castle as a fortress declined. Nor the efforts of Count Dr. Bedřich Deyma at the beginning of the 20th century did not prevent the gnawing teeth of time and the once mighty castle became a ruin.e In 1996 the castle tower was reconstructed by the Municipality of Starý Jič. There is a stylish restaurant on the ground floor of the tower. An exhibition of armor and documents about the castle and estate of Starý Jičín was installed on the floors.
