The Hümmling is known for the Magalith culture with its large stone graves. Huge, uncut stones that came here during the last ice age were systematically arranged and shaped one on top of the other in pehistoric times for cultic purposes or for the construction of graves with difficult to achieve technical sophistication. The places of worship known in past centuries as chicken graves - it was assumed in past centuries that giants would have laid graves here - are mostly very well preserved to this day.
The formation to be found about 1 kilometer east of Werpeloh in the immediate vicinity of the Windberg is marked as Werpeloh "IV and V" and dates from between 3,500 and 2,800 BC.

The megalithic tombs Werpeloh IV and V at the height of the bush were created between 3500 and 2800 BC. The two graves are about twelve feet apart.

It always makes me awestruck when you see these huge stones 🪨. How were these stones moved over 5000 years ago?
