The memorial column goes back to an initiative of the "Committee of the Staufer Friends". It works to ensure that the steles preserve the memory of the Staufer rulers wherever there is an outstanding connection to the aristocratic family.
The monuments are works by the Stuttgart sculptor Markus Wolf. Donors took over the financing of the steles. The committee ceased its activities at the end of 2018.
By this time, thirty-eight Staufer steles had been implemented in six European countries.
