A ruined castle in Clun, Clun Castle would once have protected the region, especially against Welsh attack. It was established in the 12th century by Robert de Say, a Norman lord. In the 14th century, the castle was used as a hunting lodge before falling into disrepair.
The Duke of Norfolk owns the castle today. It is designated Scheduled Monument and managed by English Heritage.
