The drill hall is located in the inner ring of the fortress. The Ingolstadt State Fortress was a fortress of the Bavarian Army around Ingolstadt. During the reconstruction of the original medieval fortifications and the subsequent expansion of the Ingolstadt State Fortress, a total of five main phases can be distinguished, which are described below. It is noteworthy that in Ingolstadt, in addition to the almost completely preserved medieval city walls, the structures from the later phases have been preserved, if not completely, then at least to a significant extent, thus providing a vivid impression of how the city was shaped by the fortifications at that time. Since the post-war thesis that the remaining fortifications should be erased from the cityscape was abandoned, and since then, the neoclassical fortifications in particular have been restored and put to new uses, it remains to be hoped that this attention will also be paid to the outworks and remaining ruins of the later phases.Source / History / More information:
